THE MAKING OF HELLO AGAIN (CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO TRACKS AND FOR FREE DOWNLOADS)
Having finished 'West Of The Rest' in early 2009, producer Ben Morgan and I decided it was time to bring the back catalogue up to the technical and performance levels we had attained with the new album. The first step was to create '20th Century Squirrels' and the second was to revive the best songs from the variable home studio days of the early 21st century
My problems with the previous versions were several, poor quality samples, lack of vocal adjustment software and over indulgence being some but mainly the songs had not been out live enough and neither, at that time, had I.
It is also easy to forget, as we approach the second decade of this century, how basic home recording was in 2003 !
THE SONGS
I Wish A song about the death of my father in 1998
Different Game A complete rethink of this old song written about a girl i knew.
No Water But The Sea This reflects on a trip I took to Tenerife in the fall of 1999.
Plymouth Road There's a big city about 60 miles from where I live and I used to drive up and down that road a lot in my bass playing, gigging days. This song was inspired by a drive back home from there when I realized that every turn and every junction held some kind of memory for me.
No More Pain The title says it all, I retire from the battle having loved not wisely but well !!
Winter A romanticizing of the dark season but the underlying message is valid.
I Ran Away Again a self explanatory title.
Up The Creek Inspired by leaving a winter let i rented over the millenium winter (99/00)
Hello Again Meeting an old love unexpectedly.
Those Days Will Come Again A mixture of pride in my hippie past and what it felt like to survive the Cuban missile crisis.
THE MUSICIANS
TECHNICAL
The majority of these songs have been reworked almost entirely from their original state. Some have just been technically improved. The last track is previously unreleased. As with '20th Century Squirrels' the improvement in software available to us dramatically altered our expectations.
Massive thanks to Matt Exelby who produced the originals, without whom etc etc etc.......
